My Favourite Photograph.
I have known this photograph all my life. Unfortunately he died suddenly just as I was getting interested in my genealogy. This was one of the few photographs I had of them as children.
Dad said that he
went to Holy Trinity Church School and pointed out his uniform in the picture
of him and Mum, probably taken in the back yard of 28 Beckton Road. I wonder if
they’re standing in front of the chicken house where the guilty egg eating
chicken lived. I have a vague memory of Mum laughing at this picture and
telling me that she had gotten into trouble for allowing Dad’s mother to crimp
her hair.
Dad's mother sent this picture to him during WWII. My mother had a small flat at Warley Barracks , where he was stationed during the second half of WWII. The first two years of the war saw him in India, but because of his frequent run ins with dysentery and malaria he was sent back to England. He was a Heavy Anti-Aircraft Gun Mechanic,
